LaVerne Cox on life and beauty
Jane’s guest today is the extraordinarily talented and glamorous—not to mention, gorgeous— LaVerne Cox. Indeed, LaVerne, an icon of icons, is a four-time Emmy-nominated actress, Emmy winning documentary film producer, and a prominent equal rights advocate. While her groundbreaking role in the Netflix drama, Orange Is the New Black, first brought her to the attention of diverse audiences all over the world, LaVerne, in fact, has had a multitude of firsts over the years. She is the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy, the first to appear on the cover of Time, Cosmopolitan and Essence magazines, and even the first to have a wax figure at Madame Tussaud. Recently, she has also partnered with Gold Bond, the creator of celebrated lotions and creams, on their Champion your Skin campaign that gives back to the Trans Wellness Center, a ground-breaking organization that supports transgender and non-binary people in feeling comfortable and confident in their own skin. LaVerne is both an artist and an advocate with an empowering message of moving beyond gender expectations to live more authentically. And she is inspiring our listeners to do just that. To that end, on this segment, she and Jane talk about her career, her new campaign, and her lifelong dedication to raise awareness about the needs of the transgender community. In addition, she shares her tips and tools on beauty, health and fitness, and advice on how we all can become Better Than Before, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. See what LaVerne’s up to and learn more about the Champion Your Skin campaign on her Instagram, @lavernecox.
